There are only two things that can hold you back – past experiences and current circumstances.

Genesis 1:26 (AMP)
God said, Let Us [Father, Son, and Holy Spirit] make mankind in Our image, after Our likeness, and let them have COMPLETE AUTHORITY over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, the [tame] beasts, and OVER ALL OF THE EARTH, and over everything that creeps upon the earth.

The two things that are holding you back can only be overcome in light of understanding the divine nature.  When we use the phrase, “the divine nature,” we’re referring to the nature of God.  When God said, “Let Us make mankind in Our image, after Our likeness,” He was saying that every human being qualifies to be a partaker of the divine nature.  The phrase, “Father, Son, and Holy Spirit,” means God the Father, His Son Jesus, and the Holy Spirit all have a role to play both in receiving the divine nature and in expressing the divine nature.  Expressing the divine nature is how you overcome past experiences and current circumstances.

You were created by God in his image and likeness.  The word image refers to self-image.  The word likeness refers to self-esteem.  Self-image is how you see yourself.  Self-esteem is how you feel about yourself.  The key to your success in life and ministry is to both see yourself and feel about yourself the same way God does.  Putting this truth into practice is what gives you the ability to exercise complete authority and express the divine nature.  Sweeping statement now: The two greatest obstacles to realizing your full potential are past experiences and current circumstances.

The greatest obstacle to seeing yourself the same way God does is past experiences.  The greatest obstacle to feeling about yourself the same way God does is current circumstances.  The number one influence on a person’s identity is their past experiences.  Once a person gets over their past, the number one influence on a person’s identity is now their current circumstances.  Most people determine who they are based on their past experiences.  However, you’re a new creation person now – the past is gone and the new has come.  Now, as a new creation person, you can now express the divine nature to overcome past experiences and change current circumstances.
