Question: What is the Gospel?  Answer: The Gospel is the Good News about Jesus Christ.  The Good News is that through the sacrifice of Jesus, God exchanged your sin for His righteousness.

2 Corinthians 5:21 (NKJV)
For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

This week’s Success Scripture sums up the good news of the Gospel.  Jesus Christ, the only human being who ever lived a perfect sinless life, took your sin upon Himself so you could be reconciled to God.  Jesus endured the punishment your sin deserved and now you are no longer separated from God because of spiritual death.  Now, through the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus, your acceptance and approval by God are according to who you are in Christ – you are the righteousness of God in Christ!

Sweeping statement now: For the person who has placed their faith in Christ and confessed Jesus as Lord, sin is no longer an issue when it comes to how God relates to you.  Sin is no longer preventing God from blessing you, as stated under the old covenant.  The essence of the new covenant is that all your past, present, and future sins have already been forgiven and now God loves you unconditionally.

As a result of the new covenant, God now relates to you as the righteousness of God in Christ, not based on your performance and behavior.  People may still relate to you based on your performance and behavior – you may still even suffer consequences based on your performance (at work) and your behavior (in life), but God relates to you based on the perfection of Jesus.  The Good News is that Jesus became sin so you could become the righteousness of God in Christ.  Now, God relates to you as the righteousness of God in Christ!
