Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony.
The word “clothed” is used here to describe the imagery of getting dressed in the morning. Putting clothes on is an intentional activity and so it should be with love. Every day you should be mindful to put on love. God is love (1 John 4:8) and you are a partaker of the divine nature (2 Peter 1:4). Therefore, if you have received the divine nature, the expectation is to express it by walking in love.
Love is the clothing that Jesus’ death provided for you to wear. Love is the strand of God’s DNA that every new creation person has in common. For the new creation person, his or her life should be an example of what walking in love looks like.
One of the ways you can express the divine nature is by being aware that your adversary, the devil, will try and get you to react to people with attitudes and actions that were characteristic of the old sinful nature. Instead of succumbing to his strategies and tactics, respond to people with the divine nature by walking in love. Resist the devil and embrace the divine nature. Make it a practice to respond to life in love instead of reacting to life with hatred.
You can experience effortless change by trusting in the power of the divine nature within you. You are not the same person you once were. You were once bound to negative attitudes and unwholesome actions, but now you are free by the grace of God. You no longer have a sinful nature that holds you in bondage to hatred.
The opposite of love is hate. Hate is a characteristic of spiritual death, not eternal life. Hatred is an attitude of the old sinful nature. Hate is incompatible with the divine nature of eternal life. Hate will never solve the world’s problems, but love always will.
