God’s will is for your work to serve as a platform for glorifying Him.

work_as_worship1Ephesians 6:7 (NLT)
Work with enthusiasm, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people.

Christian employees should do their jobs with enthusiasm as if Jesus Christ were their supervisor.  Working with enthusiasm means working hard with a cheerful attitude.  Enthusiasm is allowing God to express Himself through you when you work, the origin and object of your cheerful attitude being Christ.  Enthusiasm is allowing God to express Himself through you as you work with a cheerful attitude.

Because we spend so much time in the workplace (8 hours or more a day), this is one of the primary places where our character is demonstrated and seen.  The way we work, and our attitude in doing so, says a lot about our overall character.  Therefore, your character will be revealed (in part) in the form of your work ethic.

God can turn your work from a depressing drudgery into something to enjoy and be grateful for.  Here’s how: If you could regard your work as an act of worship (as part of your service to God), such an attitude would take some of the drudgery and boredom out of it.  You could work without complaining and resentment if you would treat your job challenges as part of being a disciple of Jesus.  Staying true to your character and working with a good attitude will pay off in the end because God states in His Word that He will reward you.  This applies to both employees and employers.  Christ-like workers do their work as if unto the Lord with all their hearts.

Remember that no matter who you work for, and no matter who works for you, the One you ultimately should work to please is your Father in heaven because you are accountable to Him, and He will reward you.  When I see God as my true employer, He becomes my ultimate rewarder.

The purpose of work includes testing your attitude, developing your character, and influencing your work ethic.  Your attitude toward your work, the character you demonstrate, and the work ethic you display (when all done as unto the Lord) will bring God’s abundance into your life and move you toward financial freedom!
