1 John 4:7 (NKJV)
Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God.
Being born of God means we have become children of God, and as a result of being born of God, we have become partakers of the divine nature. Therefore, we are partakers of the DNA of God.
Everyone who is born of God receives eternal life (the life of God), and now the nature of God (agape love) lives in that born again person’s re-created spirit. When you received eternal life, you received the nature of God and that nature includes agape love. A born again Christian has agape love within them and now they are expected to express it by walking in love.
Walking in love is the proof that a person knows God. Knowing God means that a person has a relationship with God. To claim to be a Christian without living a life of love is like having been born of parents whom we don’t in any way resemble. Living a life of love is the mark of God’s parentage. Love for one another proves that we have been born again spiritually, and walking in love proves that we know God. Walking in love proves that we know God.
Knowing God requires intimacy with God, and because God is love, intimacy with God requires loving others. To claim to know God while failing to love others is to make a false claim. To claim to be a Christian without walking in love is like claiming to be intimate with a foreigner whose language we cannot speak. God’s language is the language of agape love. Agape love is the language of God.
Love comes from God because God is love. The entire new covenant is based on love; God’s love for us, our love for Him, love toward others, love toward ourselves, and even love for our enemies. You can know God through love!
