1 Corinthians 4:20 (NLT)
For the Kingdom of God is not just fancy talk; it is living by God’s power.
The intimation here is that a kingdom citizen is to live by relying on the power of God. The Holy Spirit is the power of God; therefore, relying on the power of the Holy Spirit is the way to live a victorious Christian life. We are not trying to walk in love in our own power. We are not trying to express the divine nature in the energy of our flesh. Instead, we are trusting in what Jesus did by relying on the power of the Holy Spirit to walk in love and express the divine nature. Trusting Jesus to express the divine nature equates to relying on the power of the Holy Spirit to walk in love.
The hallmark characteristic of the divine nature is love; therefore, expressing the divine nature includes walking in love. When we talk about expressing the divine nature, we are talking about expressing agape love. Agape love is proactive and unconditional; therefore, when we talk about expressing the divine nature we are talking about walking in love proactively and unconditionally. Walking in love is the primary expression of the divine nature.
The reason you can live a righteous life by walking in love is because the Holy Spirit lives within you, and now the Holy Spirit will enable and empower you as you let the divine nature flow through you. The Holy Spirit is the personal inspiration of God in your life, and because of indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit, you have both the help, and the power, to walk in love. You can rely on the power of the Holy Spirit to express the divine nature.
