1 Corinthians 14:1 (AMP)
Eagerly pursue and seek to acquire [this] love [make it your aim, your great quest].
Notice the words “this love” in the center of our Success Scripture. The love referred to here is the love that is described in First Corinthians 13. “This love” is a love that is inspired by God’s love for us and in us.
God’s love for us is both proactive and unconditional. God loved us proactively by sending Jesus and He continues to love us unconditionally because Jesus is alive today. (See 1 John 4:9-10.) God’s love in us is the result of the new birth. When we were born again, the Holy Spirit poured God’s love into our hearts. (See Romans 5:5.)
“This love” is not only a love that is inspired by God’s love for us and in us, but this love also grows out of God’s love for us and God’s love in us. In other words, the God-kind of love can only be expressed effectively with the help and by the power of the Holy Spirit.
The question becomes: What exactly am I to express with the help and by the power of the Holy Spirit? Answer: The characteristics of “this love” as stated in First Corinthians 13 verses 4 through 7. These attitudes and actions are the way God relates to us and they are to be the way we relate to others. Some of the characteristics of “this love” include patience, kindness, contentment, modesty, humility, courtesy, tolerance, respect, generosity, forgiveness, encouragement, perseverance, faith and hope.
The motivation to put “this love” into practice in your life is because “this love” never fails! When you apply these characteristics in both attitude and action, you will always succeed. Your relationships will improve and you will attract more success into your life.
