Question: What is the opposite of never? Answer: Always. Next question: What is the opposite of fails? Answer: Succeeds. Love never fails; therefore, love always succeeds. Walking in love guarantees success in your relationships because love always succeeds.
Walking in love as it relates to success in relationships can be summed up with the words acceptance and appreciation. Acceptance refers to loving people unconditionally; appreciation refers to loving people proactively. Loving unconditionally means I accept people; loving proactively means I appreciate people. Every single person you meet wants to be accepted and appreciated. Here are some practical ways you can convey acceptance and appreciation toward other people.
Acceptance
Everybody wants to be part of something; that’s acceptance. The easiest way to convey acceptance is to smile and use the other person’s name.
A smile is contagious. Whenever you smile at someone, here’s what goes off in their mind: “I don’t even know this person, but they accept me because they smiled at me.” A smile is contagious and it denotes acceptance.
Next, whenever you meet someone, remember and use their name. When you remember and use a person’s name, you’re making them feel accepted. It’s been said that a person’s name is the sweetest and most important sound in any language.
Appreciation
Everybody wants to feel special; that’s appreciation. The easiest way to show appreciation is to give a sincere compliment and be a person of your word.
There are 2 types of compliments: external and internal. An external compliment is telling someone what you like about their appearance or their attitude. Whenever you give someone a sincere compliment, here’s what goes off in their mind: “I don’t even know this person, but they appreciate me because they told me so in the form of a compliment.”
In contrast, an internal compliment is not telling, but listening. An internal compliment can be summed up in one word: listen. Many of you know that some people really don’t want solutions to their problems; they just want a listening ear. Reader’s Digest said it this way: “Many people call a doctor when all they want is an audience.”
Another way to show appreciation is to be a person of your word. When you tell someone you’re going to do something, can they count on you? Are you reliable or do you help only when you feel like it? Are you punctual or are you always late for your appointments?
Life is all about people, and walking in love is how you get along with people. Acceptance and appreciation are both examples of what walking in love looks like. Jesus accepted and appreciated people and you can too!
To help you practice these 2 critical people skills I have recorded the Love Scriptures from cover to cover as they are found in the Bible. Listening to this CD on a regular basis will help you accept and appreciate people more!
