Genesis 1:26-27 (NKJV)
26 Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”
27 So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.
The word “man” in verse 26 is defined in verse 27, and it refers to both men and women. God created the human race in His image and likeness so both men and women could become leaders. Men and women are equally image-bearers of God, and their dignity is equal in consequence; therefore, God intended both men and women to be successful, effective leaders.
Leadership is the true essence of all human beings, but here’s the paradox of leadership in the Kingdom of God: Everyone is an inherent leader, but not everyone can lead. Every human being was created to be a leader, but not everyone becomes the leader God created them to be. Regardless of whether you manifest it or not, God’s purpose for your life includes becoming the leader God created you to be.
Question: Why doesn’t everyone discover their leadership potential? Answer: The reason some never manifest their true leadership potential is because they never receive the divine nature. And if they do receive the divine nature, they never express it by walking in love – they never find out what it means to love God, and to love your neighbor as yourself.
Leadership in the Kingdom of God is a manifestation of the divine nature. When we use the phrase, “the divine nature,” we are referring to the nature of God. When God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness,” He was saying that every human being qualifies to be a partaker of the divine nature.
Every person was born to lead, but every person must become a leader. Unfortunately, many never become the leaders God created them to be because becoming the leader God created you to be includes learning how to express the divine nature by walking in love.
When a person places their faith in Christ and confesses Jesus as Lord they became a new creation. They are born of God, and the spiritual part of them is now filled with the divine nature. Everyone who is born of God receives eternal life (the life of God), and now the nature of God (agape love) resides in that person’s born again re-created spirit. A born-again Christian has God’s love within them, and now they’re expected to express it by walking in love.
God is love; therefore, walking in love is the primary expression of the divine nature. Every born-again Christian is a kingdom citizen; therefore, the heart of a leader in the kingdom of God lies in expressing the divine nature by walking in love. Expressing the divine nature results in what walking in love looks like, and becoming a great leader includes becoming an example of what walking in love looks like. Leadership is a manifestation of the divine nature, and great leadership happens when the divine nature flows through people automatically.
