purpose_joy-200x300Jesus said that He glorified God by fulfilling His purpose.

John 17:4 (NKJV)
“I have glorified You on the earth.  I have finished the work which You have given Me to do.”

Jesus said that He glorified God by finishing the work (purpose) that God gave Him to do while He was on the earth.  One of the ways you can glorify God while you are on the earth is by fulfilling your purpose – by completing the assignment God has for your life.  Jesus was faithful to God’s purpose for His life and He is our example to follow.  I like to say it this way: “If it was good enough for Jesus, it’s good enough for me.”

God created every person with a purpose.  Every human being is on the earth for a reason; it’s called your purpose.  Your purpose has two aspects; one is general and the other is specific.  Your general purpose is to glorify God, just like Jesus stated in John 17:4.  Your specific purpose is the assignment God created you to complete while you are here on the earth.  Your specific purpose can be summed up this way: You were created to have fellowship with God through the process of realizing your God-given dream.  Your general purpose is to glorify God and your specific purpose includes realizing your God-given dream.

Here are 5 questions every human being must answer: Who am I?  Where am I from?  Why am I here?  What am I capable of doing?  Where am I going?

1. Who am I?  Answer: I’m a miracle of God with unlimited potential.  I’m not a being who evolved from a puddle of slime.

2. Where am I from?  Answer: I was created by God both spiritually and physically.  I didn’t originate from the animal kingdom; I originated from the heart of God.

3. Why am I here?  Answer: I’m here to complete my assignment and fulfill my purpose.  I’m not here to just get by, be miserable, and then die.

4. What am I capable of doing?  Answer: I can glorify God and realize my God-given dream.  My future is not limited by my past experiences or my current circumstances.

5. Where am I going?  Answer: I’m an eternal spirit who will live forever.  Physical death is not the end, but the beginning of my eternal future.
